5 K-Dramas You Can Watch on Netflix While Social Distancing
Things have been pretty crazy the last few weeks, huh? In a matter of days, life has drastically changed for many people. As a teacher my life has been turned up side down and I still await many more changes. My career is up in the air as the remainder of this school year is still being questioned.
I have however, remained calm. There are forces at work that I cannot control and things that are completely out of my hands. What I can control are my emotions and how I deal with the situations at hand.
I’ve taken the social distancing thing to heart and I know that I am a small piece to a BIG picture. I have loved ones around me that I would NEVER want to compromise so keeping my booty at home is crucial. I live in a community that has a large number of elderly individuals so minimizing my contact around my neighborhood is important.
My local grocery stores have a handful of assisted living, nursing homes and retirement homes nearby! A vast majority of the patrons are from those locations. My concerns are for them. And I have to do my best part to keep a safe distance.
As I am currently on Spring Break, I’ve done what any normal adult with what seems like an finite amount of free time would do: BINGE NETFLIX SHOWS.
My viewing interests vary. I like anything from The Vampire Diaries to Parks and Recs to The Good Witch. However, my heart is generally drawn to one particular genre…. K-Dramas.
What is a K-Drama?
K-Dramas, or Korean Dramas, are just what the name implies. I’m particularly drawn to the romance K-Dramas because there’s just something so thrilling and innocent about them! If you haven’t watched a K-Drama but love romance then I highly suggest you check them out! Netflix has several really great shows available to watch.
Unlike American shows, K-Dramas generally only have ONE season. A full story is told within that season. And everything wraps up nicely with what I consider a satisfying conclusion. Today I’m going to share my top five picks of K-Dramas you can check out on Netflix right now while social distancing… you’re welcome!
1. Crash Landing on You
If there’s one K-Drama I would recommend you HAVE to watch on Netflix it would be, Crash Landing on You. It has all the elements of a good K-Drama but something a little extra. Without giving away too much, the leading lady is a successful business women in South Korea. A freak paragliding accident leads her to crash land in North Korea. A North Korean officer finds her and the whirlwind story begins! I loved this show because I thought it did an excellent job of building a love story. It always pains a picture of what life in North Korea is like and that the people that live there are PEOPLE. I know a ton of people have watched this already. But if you haven’t, JUMP ON IT NOW. I’m not a “cry-er” but I was definitely crying over several scenes in this one.
2. Strong Girl Bong Soon
Yes! One of my favorites! This K-Drama is much more fun and light-hearted, HOWEVER still thrilling and packed with heart fluttering moments. Bong-Soon, the leading lady, is blessed (or cursed) with having super human strength. However, the strength she is given can be taken away if she uses it to harm another human. She tries her best to hide her strength and live as normal as she can. She later is hired as a body guard and that’s when the real story starts 😉 The love story in this one is one of my favorites!
3. Cinderella with Four Knights
Every culture has some form of a Cinderella story, eh? This Cinderella inspired story is a bit different than the traditional tale you might be accustomed to. In this story, Ha-Won is getting ready to prepare for college but works multiple jobs to save up money. She is raised by her stepmom along side her stepsister while her dad travels as a truck driver. In traditional Cinderella fashion, she is mistreated by both her stepmom and stepsister. Ha-Won is left to take care of all the household chores, cater to her stepsister and left to sleep on their small balcony. She happens to stumble upon the opportunity to “look after” three of the most wealthy young men and complete “missions” assigned to her from their grandfather. There’s a good ol’ love triangle that emerges along with some shady drama. A lot of people compare it to another popular K-Drama, Boys over Flowers. However, I disagree with that.
4. Cheese in the Trap
Okay, so I know there would be some people that disagree with me on this one. But there’s something about this one that I just love! There are plenty of frustrating moments and maybe I have a thing for getting frustrated! I will say there are a handful of characters in this series that I LOVE and really only watch it because of them. It’s just one of those classic stories where the leading lady comes from a poor family but works hard to better her life. But then we throw in a rich guy who could possibly change her life. However, this guy has a dark, manipulative side…. so of course they fall in love! Two thumbs up for shady drama and lots of internal yelling!
5. Love Alarm
I definitely fell in love with this romantic K-Drama last year and it’s easy to see why! The premise of the story is that there’s an app that alerts you when someone nearby is romantically in love with you. It’s easy to relate and connect with the characters in this story. You can’t help but get sucked into the romantic drama!
Have you watched any of these? If so, which ones? I hope you check out some of them if you haven’t already. What K-Dramas do you like that are on Netflix? Share yours in the comments below!
