Now that spring is officially here, it can be a good idea to think about the updates that you can make to your wardrobe. We are still very much in the transitional period, where coats and pashminas can be very much needed, until the temperatures really start to rise. But if you haven’t got the budget to change all of your clothing, then you just need a little know how to make what you already have suitable for the warmer temperatures. Here are some tips and tricks to try for some DIY fashion for spring.
Floral Sliders
Getting flip flops and sandals on is one of the best things about the lead up to spring; so long black tights and boots. But if you haven’t got the budget to buy a brand new pair of sandals, or you just like to make your own statement pieces, then how about recycling an old pair of sliders and giving them a floral update? It just needs some glue and some fabric patches that might normally be sewn onto a jacket.
There is a great, really simple tutorial you can watch here:

Change The Hem on a Skirt
If you want to update a skirt that you wore last year, then it can be pretty straightforward. You could take up the hem of a maxi skirt to make a new style midi (or even a mini if you’re feeling adventurous). You could also cut out some shapes on a denim skirt and fill them with lace that you can sew in. It will make the skirt look like new but it will cost you very little to do.
Wear a Jacket Differently
If you have been wearing a couple of jackets over the winter months, then the chances are that they have been layered up and with a scarf and a little hat. But if you wear a jacket that you have been wearing, but just wear it in a different way, it can make it look like new. A blazer jacket would be worn open and with the sleeves rolled up for an eighties look, or a coatigan-style jacket could be worn with a belt to bring it together, rather than layered up with your scarves. There are plenty of different options to try, just look at what jackets you currently have.
Add Beading
Some beading or embroidery can update any item of clothing pretty instantly. But it is even better for your accessories. If you’re not a keen sewer, then there are plenty of fabric glues and patches that could work too. But just look how much a black bag can be jazzed up for spring with some beading added.
Use Household Items To Change Pieces of Clothing
If you want to change your clothing to look like something completely new, then there are plenty of things that you have at home that can help. Take a cheese grater, for example. Use on a pair of boyfriend jeans and you’ll have a new distressed-look pair of jeans instantly. You can use bleach on shirts and even jeans to make them lighter, as well as adding pins and badges to give it a funky look.
What are you most excited about for fashion this spring?
Until next time,
