The only thing worse than being stuck in a rut and living a life that feels more than just a little boring is being stuck in a rut, living a life that feels more than just a little boring and then stumbling across the Hunter S. Thompson’s quote: Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”
That’s when it really hits home.
Excitement isn’t an emotion you feel anymore, which is probably because life has become you eating the same thing for breakfast, enduring the same commute five days a week and wondering which of your eight outfits and two pairs of shoes you might wear, before scrolling down Instagram to see what everybody else is up to. You wish life was more exciting, but you don’t know how to make it so.
Alas, we would like to pass on some tips to anyone feeling a little stuck and bored with life. Just be warned, they all require leaving your comfort zones.
1.Say Hello To Dawn.
Do it. Twice, thrice, four times a week – it doesn’t matter so long as you see the sunrise at some point each week. To make this really worth it, pick a great vantage point, get a friend on board and brew a strong coffee. Your breath will be snatched at the day will feel full of possibility.
2.Choose A Different Route.
Nothing can make life feel more monotonous than enduring the same commute to work and back five times a week. So, from now on, give yourself that little bit more time to take the scenic route. Walk down the backstreets. Take the bus instead of the subway. Invest in a bicycle.
3.Roadtrips Are Exciting. Period.
When people need a shot of excitement straight to the heart, they automatically think about how awesome it would be to travel. That’s exactly what a mini-roadtrip is. It’s leaping in the car and heading off on a weekend-long adventure to see new sights, explore new vistas and have new adventures.
4.Don’t watch It. Live It.
No one is going to feel excited by living a life of passive activities. You need to get out there and do things and live life. Take on an Escape Room, turn off the television and pick up a book, go and see a play at the theatre, join a local Amateur Dramatics group, buy tickets to a live sports event – anything that isn’t passive.
5.Taste The Difference.
When you are stuck in a routine, your meals fall in line too. Breakfast is the same, lunch is a packed one, dinners are decided by what day of the week it is. Break up this monotony by introducing your taste buds to something new. Visit that new restaurant, try cooking a new cuisine, stop by that food truck you’ve heard all about. Anything to excite that all-important sense of taste.
