There’s been a lot of hype and buzz around the brand Tatcha lately. Bloggers, Youtubers, and beauty influencers alike have been generating buzz about this Japanese beauty brand. I ran over to my nearest Sephora to check out the brand but my Sephora didn’t carry it 🙁 If you know me then you know I’m not one to order beauty products online that I haven’t tested or tried; I’m really weird about it! I need to be able to hold the product, see it in person, etc.
But I made my way to a new Sephora ( at Disney Springs here in Orlando, FL) right around the time I had my VIB 20% and snatched myself two Tatcha products I had my eyes on.
- Tatcha’s Balanced Pore Perfecting Water Gel Moisturizer: I had seen a couple of Youtube videos were people were praising this product, so this was something I kept note of wanting to try. First off, pore perfecting? YES, the combination of those two words always gets me! After using this product for a couple of weeks now I have to say I have a love/hate relationship with it. I love it because I have SUPER oily skin and I think it does it great job at keeping the oils at bay. So A+ on that. I hate it because it doesn’t do much more after that and I so desperately WANT it to do more, especially since it has such great claims (and a pretty hefty price tag for a moisturizer). At a steep price of $68, I’d say…skip this. I’ve been using Clinique’s moisturizer for years now and it gets the job done for me at a fraction of the cost! Tatcha’s moisturizer claims that it visibly tighten pores in 28 days and I haven’t seen any noticeable changes. It does a good job at moisturizing and cutting down my oils but for the price, I can find a product that does that AND more for cheaper.
- Tatcha’s Luminous Dewy Skin Mist: So this is the product that has the most buzz so I knew it was something I wanted to try out. But why? WHY WOULD I WANT A DEWY SKIN MIST WHEN I HAVE OILY SKIN???? WHYYYYY? Sometimes I don’t understand my brain. I mean it made me look 10x greasier than I already do! I used it as a final step after applying all my face makeup and it sat on my face very weird. I felt like it took a VERY long time to “absorb” or sink it. It literally just sat on my face. I also only used it a couple of times because I realized it was starting to break me out a bit. If I need a face spray, I’ll stick with Mario Badescu’s Rose Water Spray. It’s literally half the price and hydrating.
Overall, I wasn’t impressed with either of the products. I’ll use up the moisturizer because it’s good (just not good enough at it’s price point) and I’ll stick with my Mario Badescu spray. Have you tried any Tatcha products? What were your thoughts or experiences? Did I just pick the wrong things to try? I’m a huge fan of Asian skin care/beauty brands so this was a pretty huge let down for me. Share your thoughts below!

I have used some products and they didn’t seem to be at par with their claims..Good but not great..xx

So disappointing! There was another product I wanted to try but now it’s pretty much a no go for me lol

I had higher expectations from Rice Exfoliator..I can only say that if you love experimentation without the worry of higher price tag, then you can give it a try..xx

I like some of their stuff (mainly moisturizer) but I totally agree with that skin mist! I totally bought into the hype & couldn’t wait to get it. I do love a “dewy, glowy look”. But I put that on & all I could think of was “I just totally RUINED my makeup I just spent an hour putting on”! It was terrible! And I don’t have oily skin, I’m dry so you’d think it would work ever better for me. No. I looked like an oil slick. The bottle is gorgeous, but $50 for a bottle to sit on my vanity, no thanks. I think the brand in general is ok, not great & extremely overhyped & priced.

Oh man, i’m sorry it didn’t work out for you as well 🙁 I think this is a case of beauty vloggers/bloggers getting paid good $$ to promote a product. Because now I’m seeing all these vloggers having tatcha facials and going to tatcha events. But whatever, i like the moisturizer too 🙂

I totally agree. I definitely take any reviews by the big name “gurus” with a grain of salt.
