Perfume Review: KKW Crystal Violet Musk
Okay, so I’m kinda obsessed with perfumes and fragrances. I’ve been collecting perfumes for year. I blame Bath and Body Works for starting this fascination at an early age!
My taste and preference is a bit all over the place but I do feel like I know quite a bit about perfume. A major downside for having a love for fragrances is the price. Good perfume can be expensive! However, there are some pretty good scents out there that won’t break the bank.
When Kim Kardashian released her first KKW Perfume, I jumped on it to give it a try. Embarrassingly enough, I did like her OG perfume which was just called Kim Kardashian. It was a sweet and clean yet floral scent that wasn’t overpowering. A major selling point for the KKW Fragrances in my opinion is the affordability of the products so I don’t feel AS GUILTY buying the perfumes.
I’ve gotten a few fragrances from her line and while I haven’t loved all of them, I do enjoy the majority of them. And I will say, there are several that I get a TON of compliments on when I wear, even more so than some of my more expensive brands.
I recently bought the Crystal Violet Musk and wanted to share my thoughts on it.
KKW Crystal Violet Musk
Scent
Describing a scent can be difficult. To be honest, i hate reading the scent descriptions provided on the KKW site. It’s a little too try hard, too whimsical and too difficult to understand. And to be honest, if I was going off the description provided, I probably wouldn’t purchase the scent.
With that being said, I will say that the site states that the opening scents are Italian bergamot and lavender (this is my simplified version! Lol)
The “heart” of the fragrance is star jasmine, peonies and pink lily.
Ending notes are vanilla bean, tonka bean and sandal wood.
What’s my take? It’s a sweet scent but not overwhelming or sickeningly sweet. There is a slight floral scent with the peony and lavender really coming through. Upon first stray it is much more floral but once it settles it’s a sweet scent. As it settles, the vanilla scent comes through much more.
I would describe it as a more mature sweet scent. I would say that after that initial spray, the vanilla, lavender, peony and sandal wood are the main scents. It reminds me of another scent, but I can’t put my finger on it at the moment.
Price
Like all KKW perfumes, the price is affordable and the quality is great for the price. There is one size for this fragrance. For 30mL, it’s $35. Shipping was $8.95 which in the land of free shipping sounds like a lot. However, shipping was fast and the package arrived secure. The total was $43.95 which I think is reasonable.
Lasting Power
I’d give it high ratings for its lasting power. For a more affordable item, it does have a long lasting scent. I can wear it that whole day and still have the scent last on me.
Packaging
Like always, Kim Kardashian West knows branding and knows what works for her and HER brand. I love ordering the KKW Crystal perfumes because the box that it comes in feels so luxurious. It makes it perfect for gifting. I also LOVE that it comes with a little envelope of amethyst crystals.
My only dislike is that actual bottle itself. I know it’s meant to look pretty on a vanity but I don’t like that it’s in a bottle that doesn’t stand up. I’m not the biggest fan of perfume bottle that have to lay flat. I know that may sound weird but that’s just a personal preference. I like to display my perfumes and it’s hard to see the bottles that lay flat like this.
Overall Rating and Thoughts
I’d give KKW Crystal Violet Musk a 8.9/10. The fragrance itself is beautiful and has great lasting power. My only dislike is the bottle itself. I think from a marketing stand point, the perfume could be priced at $45 with free shipping to sound a bit more appealing. There’s something about shipping prices that can really throw a person off from ordering. But overall, I do recommend it especially if you like a more mature sweet scent. When I’ve worn this perfume, much like any other KKW, I’ve gotten a ton of positive compliments from strangers AND most importantly my husband!
