I recently took a trip to Longboat Key, Florida. It was my first time in the area so I was super excited to explore and try out some new places. Being from the East coast side of Florida, I’m always excited to travel to the West coast. The West coast has some of the most beautiful beaches in Florida. With crystal blue waters and white sand, the West coast has got it going on!
When traveling to a beachy area, I’m always most excited about seafood. I used to be a picky eater seafood being something I would stick my nose up at. But now I really enjoy seafood and have a better appreciation for it.
My top 3 Restaurant Picks You Need to Try in the Longboat Key Area
I’m a huge Yelp fan so I took to Yelp to look up the best of the best and book marked my top picks. I ate at a TON of places while I was there….A little too many and I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that but hey, when I’m on vacation I EAT.
Sage Biscuit
What kind of restaurant recommendation would this be if I didn’t have a breakfast/brunch spot?! I will say I was a little disappointed with the breakfast spots in the area. Luckily, Sage Biscuit saved the the day and made up for the lack of tasty morning treats.
I have a rule of thumb when it comes to restaurants: Always try a place with the “biscuit” in it’s name. So far that rule has yet to fail me. Being that their star item were their biscuits, I went ahead and ordered their biscuit and gravy. I must say it was probably one of the best B&G dishes I’ve ever had. It was seasoned just right, not to peppery or salty. And of course, that biscuit was dynamite.
Price wise, this was the best deal I had in the area. With a price tag of $7.99, this portion is LARGE and easily able to feed two people (or one really hungry person).
Sage Biscuit isn’t technically in Longboat Key but it’s a short 10 minute drive to the Cortez location.
I mean come on guys, LOOK AT THAT BISCUIT.
BEACH HOUSE
I was a little hesitant to visit the Beach House because it had so-so reviews. It has pretty good reviews on Google and TripAdvisor but not the greatest on Yelp. Generally when I’m using Yelp I try to stay clear of three star or less places. I was on the verge of hangry so I had to do what I needed to do…..
Our waiter recommended their grouper sandwich so I went ahead and got that. You can get the fish either grilled, blacken or fried and I went with fried. The fish was SUPER fresh and was cooked just right. It was juicy and sweet and the breading on it was just right.
Their side of “fries” were good but they weren’t fries. They were basically potato wedges but I can’t complain because they were delicious and a potato is a potato.
We also ordered their Cuban sandwich since it was their best selling item and that was BOMB too. It’s LOADED with meat. Our server said that the portion was good for one person but I disagree, this is definitely a sandwich that two people can share.
The stand out star of The Beach House though is it’s location. Located on the beach, this place has a 5 star view that makes the experience top notch.
There’s PLENTY of seating indoors and outdoors.
Dry Dock
Dry Dock was one of the places that had the best reviews out of all the restaurants I had been to. The location was kind of weird and parking was a pain but the food is well worth it. Everyone was raving about their lobster rolls so I decided that I needed to go with the crowd favorite. Again, this is one of this dishes that I think can easily be shared with someone. The roll is PACKED with lobster so it’s hearty, filling dish.
In Love with Longboat Key
Now that I’m back home, my waist line HATES me and I’m back at the gym burning off those few extra pounds I put on. But like I said, it was a vacation! For the most part all the restaurants we went to were fabulous and I enjoyed all of them. I definitely fell in love with Longboat Key and I can’t wait to go back!

That’s what I do on vacation too! Don’t feel bad, girl! I think I may have to use that biscuit rule to choose restaurants. Sadly, I’ve never been to any Florida beaches. We have the cold Jersey shore.
